The AuPairCare Program - Germany

Situated in the heart of Europe with a rich culture and the leading economy of the continent, Germany is a great destination for exchange program participants from all over the world.

The AuPairCare Germany experience allows foreign au pairs to discover daily life in a German family while developing professional skills for today's globalized world. After an unforgettable experience participants return home with a suitcase full of new skill sets, memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Eligible are all citizens from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa United Kingdom andthe United States, who fulfil the requirements listed under "Au Pair Requirements".

Weekly working hours: 30
Monthly stipend: €350

Au Pair Benefits

  • Flexible program lengths: 6 to 12 months
  • Monthly stipend

  • 2 days of paid vacation per month (total of 4 weeks for a 12-month stay)
  • A minimum of one free day per week

Au Pair Responsibilities

An au pair provides personalized childcare for up to 30 hours per week (up to 40 hours for certain au pairs on Working Holiday visa for an increased stipend). An au pair’s duties may include light housekeeping related to the children, and other childcare support, such as:

  • Supervising and playing with the family's children
  • Preparing children’s meals
  • Straightening children’s rooms
  • Doing children’s laundry
  • Accompanying children to school, appointments and activities

Au Pair Requirements

  • Age: 18-30 years old (18 – 24 years old if au pair comes on the Au Pair Visa to Germany)
  • Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, or United States
  • Be a native English speaker
  • Have previous childcare experience; minimum of two childcare references (no relatives)
  • Be a secondary school graduate (high school) or equivalent
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be in good health
  • Be able to commit to at least 6 months
  • Be interested in learning about German culture and language
  • German language: basic knowledge is preferred but not required (basic German is required if au pair comes to Germany on the Au Pair Visa)
  • Driving license: preferred but not required

Please note that Elite and the AuPairCare & Daycare Center Germany program are still being discussed with families. Due to visa regulations, participants can't be on the au pair visa. The Working Holiday Visa is the best option. AYUSA is currently investigating other visa possibilities.

Working Holiday Visa Holders

Au pairs on the Working Holiday Visa can also work additional hours if both the family and the au pair agree on it. The increased stipend would be:

40 hours: € 470
